Biography

Ashley Toland Editor

Ashley Toland is the editor and co-publisher of Lagniappe, in which she also writes a column on Mobile city politics, Hidden Agenda. Originally from Jackson, Ala., Ashley moved to Mobile in 1995 to attend the University of South Alabama, where she earned a BA in Communications in May 2000. After graduation, she backpacked across 14 countries in Europe. Soon after, she moved to Austin, Texas, to study screenwriting at The University of Texas. After she decided that really wasn’t the path she wanted to continue on, she moved back to Mobile and co-founded Lagniappe in July 2002 with Rob Holbert. She was recently named one of "The 40 under 40: The Next Generation of Mobile Business Leaders ? by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. In June 2004, she received the Mobile Press Club’s Award for In-Depth Reporting for her story on a how a confederate heritage group bullied their way into city hall. She is a member of the Mobile AIDS Support Services advisory board. She enjoys living near the bay and beaches and tries to spend as much time as possible on or lounging by them. She also likes to see great live music, reading, rummaging through thrift stores, spending time with friends, playing with her dog, Willie, and cooking things with lots of butter.
