Biography
Sharman Egan is the real estate and business columnist for Lagniappe. She moved to LA from Atlanta in 2005 (more about that later…).
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in fine arts (what was she thinking?), Sharman pursued a motley career path that included stints as a waitress, international tour escort (no, it’s not what it sounds like), diamond setter and census taker. Her proudest achievement during this period is that she never ONCE applied for food stamps, although she certainly qualified while working as an international flight attendant in New York City for $8000 a year (no, this wasn’t during the 1940s).
Poverty finally drove Sharman back to Atlanta where she woke up one day to find that she was enrolled in the MBA program at Georgia State University. After graduating (much to the surprise of pretty much everyone who knew her), she spent the next 20 years in high tech marketing, including 12 years as an independent marketing consultant. When the Internet bubble burst, her business blew up with it. She sold real estate to keep creditors at bay until she decided to become a beach bumette. Sharman and her husband, Kevin, moved to Gulf Shores on August 26, 2005. Four days and seven feet of water later, they went looking for higher ground and ended up in Mobile in the lovely Oakleigh Garden District.
In her free time, Sharman enjoys traveling, spending time in Gulf Shores and writing. She is currently working on a narrative non-fiction book about the infamous Atlanta murder of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown. If you know a good literary agent (or even if you don’t), you can contact Sharman at Sharman@SharmanEgan.com.

"Now that Mobile has cardboard cops, what other cardboard people should we have?"
