Veronica’s Room

Where: Mobile Theatre Guild (14 N. Lafayette St.)

When: Feb. 15 – 24

Ira Levin, the author of Deathtrap, The Stepford Wives and Rosemary’s Baby, has churned out another creep-fest that both tingles and thrills.

Set in a rural New England manor, the action occurs in the antiquated bedroom of the late Veronica, a tuberculosis-plagued invalid who lived and died her short life in the many decades before.

A young college girl and her date are lured to see the room by its caretakers, an older Irish couple who note her resemblance to Veronica. Finally, they admit they want the young woman to dress up like Veronica and assume her identity to relieve the delusions of the dead girl’s crazy, dying sister still living in the house.

Curtain times for Feb. 15, 16, 22, and 23 are 8 p.m. Showtime on Feb. 24 is 2 p.m.

Tickets are $14, $12 for seniors and military and $8 for students.

*Misery *

by Stephen King

Where: Theatre 98 (350 Morphy Ave., Fairhope)

When: Feb. 15 – 24

When writer Paul Sheldon brings a popular romance novel character to a demise, he is jubilant and eager to rush the manuscript to publication but a horrific accident in remote country halts the plan. A severely injured Sheldon and his manuscript are rescued by his “biggest fan,” a woman whose fervent allegiance to Sheldon’s heroine is matched by her obsessive psychosis.

Adapted for the stage by Simon Moore, director Randy Hicks now leads the two-person cast of John Jefferson and Teth Lee through the harrowing tale. Filled with tension and dark humor, the work contains adult language and violence.

Performances are Feb. 15 – 17 and 20 – 24. Evening shows begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Box office hours are Feb. 11 – 16 and Feb. 20- 23, 5:15 – 7:15 p.m. Single admission is $15.

For more information, call 928-4366 or go to www.theatre98.org.
