The Rundown

The Ugli Stick got their kicks on Route 66, and the entire experience is currently being featured in automotive stores across the country. NAPA Auto Parts and High Five Entertainment joined forces with this Port City band back in May while they toured from Chicago to St. Louis on America’s legendary stretch of highway.

NAPA is including some of the footage in a series of segments about life on the road for a touring band. While perusing through NAPA stores nationwide, patrons will be privy to the sounds and sights of their performances at venues such as the House of Blues in Chicago and The Way Out Club in St. Louis. The segments can also be found online at www.napaonline.com

Bayfest expands

With all the hoopla over who will be performing at BayFest, it must be noted that the music festival also focuses on education with their BayFest Music Scholarship Program. This program provides $1000 scholarships to Mobile and Baldwin County sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in dedicating their life to music. The process includes an application and a video audition, and interested students should speak with their music teacher or contact BayFest at info@bayfest.com.

BayFest’s role education does not end with the scholarship. Probably the most impressive good deed that the festival is providing will be the music industry education program to be held at the Mobile Civic Center Sept. 13 from 10:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

Many young musicians with their eyes on fame and fortune in the music business have little knowledge of the music industry beast. Therefore, BayFest is providing a series of workshops for young musicians that will cover everything from contract negotiations to stage management. This seminar will also provide information on college scholarship opportunities. Dennis “Finger Roll” Nelson will be making an appearance, and some students might get the chance to perform with this national recording artist.

All Hallows gets dirty

With Halloween on the horizon, Soul Kitchen already has already planned quite a soiree for the costumed masses that will be haunting LoDa. According to Pollstar, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will be making an appearance, much to the pleasure of many local music lovers.

The Hill Country Revue will be joining the Dirty Dozen. Along with the North Mississippi All-Stars’’ Cody Dickinson, this band features Garry Burnside (R.L.’s youngest son), Kirk Smithhart (winner of the Albert King award for Best Guitarist) and Daniel Robert Coburn.
