The Rundown

The Royal Scam has already made a name for itself for offering some of the finest delicacies in the Port City. Now, this downtown eatery has added fine music to their fare two nights a week.

Tuesdays will be bluesy with the sounds of Corky Hughes, Jimmy Roebuck, Mark Pfaff and Harold Floyd jamming their hearts out. Thursdays will be dedicated to jazz, funk and soul with the Rebecca Barry Trio taking the stage.

In addition to their intimately chill atmosphere, the Royal Scam is also making their music nights more tempting with shows that start at 8 p.m., so all the working stiffs can catch a show on a weeknight and still survive the following day.

Tres Hombres on Highway 90

The Whiskey (4130 Gov’t Blvd.) is joining forces with Miller Time Live to bring the nation’s premiere ZZ Top tribute band: ZZ Not. With Rusty Mill on bass, Willy Biggons on guitar and Hank Weird on drums, this band boasts they are the mirror image of ZZ Top.

If they bring the full-production, they will show up with a 1934 Ford Coupe ZZ Mobile, a 15×25 ft Texas Flag, Giant Cactus, Buffalo, Long Horn Steer, Buzzards, Rattlesnakes, Drum Solo, Hot Leg Ladies, State-of- the-art Sound, Laser Light & Video Production, on a 1,300 sq ft Texas Shaped Stage. Needless to say, this band plans on providing the full ZZ Top experience.

MTV in Mob-Town

Shwayze is coming to Soul Kitchen and bringing MTV with them. This rapper has built his reputation upon pop songs such as “Buzzin’” and “Corona and Lime.” He and his crew have also been the focus of the MTV reality show “Buzzin’.”

This show gives a behind the scenes look at Shwayze’s effort (with a little help from producer Cisco Adler and tour manager “Wareen”) to make it in the music business. When he takes the stage at Soul Kitchen, MTV’s film crews will be there to document the performance for Season 2 of “Buzzin’.” The show will take place on Wednesday, October 1 with doors at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 in advance and $18 the day of the show.

Earle returns

For those who missed Justin Townes Earle’s performance at Callagahan’s, redemption is on its way. Steve Earle’s musical progeny will be returning to Callaghan’s on November 11 for another night of truly unforgettable music.
