Soul Patrol weighs in
To the editor:
Thanks for the great article on Taylor Hicks (2/14/07). It is really nice to see a positive article that concentrates on Taylor’s music instead of asking a bunch of silly, irrelevant questions. I really appreciated it.
I plan to be in Mobile for the concert and am looking forward to visiting your city and enjoying the concert.

To the editor:
Thanks for the insightful article on Taylor Hicks…at last an interviewer who didn’t ask the same 100 questions everyone else has asked him!
Great job!

To the editor:
Thanks so much for the wonderful, and informative article you wrote about Taylor Hicks! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I liked learning that he went to a songwriters’ festival. I’m going to try to find out more about that event.
Thanks again!

What’s so funny?
Dear Kudzu Queen:
Let me start off by saying that I think you are a very talented writer and I have enjoyed many of your pieces. I have thought many times about e-mailing you about some of your opinions that I strongly disagree with – so here goes.
I take issue with your cavalier attitude towards recovery in many of your articles. Having almost died of this disease years ago and now working in the substance abuse field where I have literally lost clients to it, I have to say I wish you would portray it as the serious problem that it is. Knowing that you write to be funny I’ll leave that alone for now.
I can’t ignore your last article concerning Sudafed though (2/14/07). Since this law was enacted in Alabama my client population has gone from approximately 50 percent who had manufacturer charges to almost zero. Given that that “meth” is still coming in from Mexico and I still have a large percentage of “meth” users, I don’t have them “blowing themselves up” anymore.
You seem to think that “meth” use is a redneck problem and I guess because of that not too important. If you would visit the “other fellowship” where we are, you would see how wrong you are. I have business owners, lawyers and many other urban professionals who are trying to come back from the horror of this drug.
All I can say is that yes, many of the government’s intrusive laws have not worked ,but this one is an outstanding success. I will leave you with an answer to your shot at the president and your opinion about which is more hazardous-Sudafed or an IED.
Obviously they are both pretty bad and I wouldn’t wish either one on anyone, but if you will check the statistics you will learn that “meth” use has claimed thousands and thousands more victims who are just as dead or maimed.
P.S. -I served in Vietnam and my son served in Iraq. I wish you knew how it felt to be in war where the populace has deserted you.
