In its 27th year, the Mobile American Cancer Society’s Chili Cook-Off will be making its way to The Grounds in West Mobile this Saturday, March 5. It’s one of our city’s biggest events and never disappoints, as plenty of teams congregate for bragging rights as to who has the best batch of chili.
The event begins at noon with all the chili you care to taste, live music and plenty of things for the kids. Proceeds from this event will be used for programs teaching the importance of early detection and prevention, patient services such as transportation, prosthetics and life-saving research.

BARC and Brews at Fairhope Brewing taproom
On Sunday, March 6, Fairhope Brewing Co. will host the 4th annual BARC and Brews event at its taproom at 914 Nichols Ave. in Fairhope. This event marks the release of the brewery’s spring seasonal, a red IPA affectionately named Rescue Dog Red. Proceeds from that beer sold in the taproom will benefit the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC). On the day of the event, FBC will donate $2 of every pour of Rescue Dog Red to BARC, and then $1 of every pour of that beer will go to BARC for the rest of the time Rescue Dog Red is on tap.
In addition to the beer release, BARC will be onsite with adoptable dogs and cats from 2-4 p.m. This gives brewery customers a chance to meet the sweet animals and perhaps adopt a new addition to their family.
The brewery will have 10 beers on tap total, and Bean and Bistro will be onsite selling food. And to add to the fun, the brewery will have live music starting at 2:30 with Cary Laine.
NUISANCE wine dinner is not what you think
This Friday, March 4, the Coast Restaurant at the Beach Club in Gulf Shores is hosting a special wine dinner. Chefs Brody Olive and Chris Sherrill of the Flora-Bama Yacht Club have put together an amazing menu of wild game and “not your normal species” of fish as part of the NUISANCE Group.
NUISANCE Group is a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate about unpopular fish and game in our area that are great culinary options. For this dinner, be prepared to dine on wild boar, duck and bar jack. These are two world-class chefs. I have seen the menu. You won’t be disappointed. Chef Throwdown at Fisher’s
The island is heating up as Fisher’s of Orange Beach hosts the third round with the Spring Coastal Chef Throwdown. This is a series of dining events held in the off seasons of spring, late fall and winter to boost creativity and camaraderie among local coastal chefs. Chris Sherrill of Flora-Bama Yacht Club, Bill Briand of Fisher’s and newcomer Jonathan Kastner of Anchor Bar and Grill will be going toe-to-toe upstairs at Fisher’s Sunday, March 6, 5-9 p.m. No reservations necessary.
