Each year, the Dauphin Street BeerFest brings a multitude of beer enthusiasts to Downtown Mobile for a seemingly endless lineup of beer samples. Typically, this makes for an early night for participants. However, Symone French & the Trouille Troupe’s post-BeerFest show should be enough temptation to make it a late night for the non-lightweights among us.
Lagniappe readers chose this vocalist as the “Best Area Singer/Voice” in this year’s installment of the Nappie Awards. French’s time with the defunct Infant Richard & the Delta Stones established her reputation as Azalea City’s premiere diva.
After the band parted ways, French kept her career moving forward both as a solo artist and sitting in with local acts such as Sergio & the Satin Dogs and Jamell Richardson. Now, French is performing alongside seasoned local musicians Christian Heiden (bass), Justin Skinner (drums), Frankie Crawford (lead guitar) and Trey Norman (rhythm guitar). With French’s croons falling between Mary J. Blige and Nina Simone, this musical collective has created a grooving mix of soul, jazz and funk that leaves crowds craving a studio album.
