Laissez les bon temps rouler! Whaaaaaa! I know, I know. I’m sad too.
Last weekend we were supposed to be lining the streets of downtown Mobile watching the Conde Cavaliers, Pharaohs and others ride, but alas, Mardi Gras as we know it shall not be in 2021. It will just be another thing we will get to tell our grandchildren about one day: “Your parents had ‘virtual school,’ everyone had to wear a mask everywhere they went and there was no Mardi Gras! But we all got through it together!”
But even still, there are good times to be had, and I have gathered a little bit of scoop for you! So stand out on the side of the street, hold your hands up high and I’ll throw you a little something, Mister (or Mistress)!
Minus five for spelling
A tipster sent me this photo that has been making its way around social m
edia. It seems spellcheck may have been a little drunk when checking this sign
on “Daupin,” I mean, Dauphin Island Parkway and Stewart Road. What is it they say? Only on the Parkway!
Good times still rolling
Even though Mardi Gras parades have been canceled, one Midtown neighborhood still let the good times roll right on down Dubroca Street. On Sunday, Jan. 31, my spies said residents of the Chateauguay neighborhood cheered as their kids paraded down the street in wagons and on bikes decorated as “Wild Kratts” characters, unicorns, Elsa and Anna from “Frozen,” a Ghostbuster and even the crew from “Gilligan’s Island.”
What a great way to chase those Mardi Gras blues away in a nice outdoor, socially distanced kind of way. Party on, Chateauguay!
Strange tales from the MPD Blotter
The following is a list of some of the stranger incidents taken from Mobile Police Department reports in the last week. As always, presented without names or comment .…

Receiving Stolen Property 1st
On Friday, Jan. 29 at approximately 4 a.m., police stopped to assist a motorist with a flat tire on Moffett Road near University Loop. While assisting the motorist officers ran the VIN on the vehicle. The VIN came back to a reported stolen vehicle out of Daphne Police Department. Two male suspects were taken into custody.
On Tuesday, Jan. 26 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police responded to the hospital in reference to an assault. The victim was transported to the hospital by the female in a personal vehicle for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Well, kids, that’s all I got this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous or some plain ol’ mini-Mardi Gras lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
