Artists Ainsley McNeely and Carmel Alvis share a fascination with history. Their chase of historical recreations involved time in the field photographing and studying subjects well before putting brush to palette and that dedication has resulted in a show at the History Museum of Mobile.

McNeely purposefully strives for the Victorian color palette, committing to paper in a way that gives it a nearly leathery look and antique flavor. Her award-winning work has been featured on the cover of Alabama Wildlife Magazine in 2012 and she designed the 2001 – 02 Alabama Duck Stamp.

Alvis enjoys photography as much as working in oils and acrylics. She only recently has delved into the recreation of Southern history. She is a member of the Watercolor and Graphic Arts Society and the Mobile Art Association.

An opening reception will occur during the Nov. 14 LoDa Artwalk.
