For years, Phil & Foster have celebrated a Wednesday residency at Oakleigh’s “town hall.” Both included in the Marlow Boys’ lineup, Phil Proctor and Stan Foster enter Callaghan’s with a batch of Americana b-sides and offbeat country cuts. This band has developed a reputation for sometimes including special guests. Past performances have included collaborations with Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie), Cary Hudson and many more.
This week’s special guest will be singer-songwriter Edward David Anderson. Anderson honed his musical chops in the Midwestern band Backyard Tire Fire. Even though he hails from the Midwest, Anderson has established sonic roots on the Gulf Coast as well. “Lower Alabama: The Loxley Sessions,” from 2015, was born in Baldwin County. Anderson’s latest release is the 2018 full-length “Chasing Butterflies.” Studio veteran Jimmy Nutt (Jason Isbell, Drive-By Truckers) of The NuttHouse Recording Studio acted as producer. This album is filled with a down home, Americana sound shaped by the modern industry.
