Posted by Jason Johnson | Mar 12, 2015 | Latest, News | 0 |

Though no officers were injured, multiple Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting last night that left an armed suspect in the hospital.

According to the department, on the evening of March 11 deputies patrolling the area responded to a residence on Cliff’s Landing Road in Bay Minette in reference to a disorderly subject. Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving complaints that a resident was “destroying his residence” and had “possibly fired a gun.”

Bay Minette resident Gilbert Fleury was shot several times by law enforcement officers in Baldwin County after allegedly approaching them with a shotgun.

Sheriff’s deputies say, upon their arrival the occupant of the residence, Gilbert Fleury, confronted them with a shotgun and was subsequently shot several times.

Fleury was transported to Baptist Hospital to undergo surgery, but no deputies were injured in this incident. The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit, a multi-jurisdictional task force, is investigating the incident.

According to Baldwin County, the Major Crimes Unit was created specifically to investigate officer-involved shootings, capital murders and in custody deaths.
