Band: Laurie Anne Armour
Date: Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Venue: Iron Hand Brewing, 206 State St., 251-725-6912
Iron Hand Brewing has become a beloved watering hole for the denizens of De Tonti Square Historic District. This quaint neighborhood pub has also become a platform for local singer-songwriters to road test their original material. Laurie Anne Armour’s show at Iron Hand will be a great opportunity to experience this promising artist’s original material. Growing up in South Mobile County, Armour shifted between piano, fiddle and woodwind instruments before settling on the guitar. Before entering her 20s, Armour was already showcasing her talents on stage through covers and her original material.
Armour’s original material will soon begin to spread beyond the live environment. This local up-and-comer will be releasing her first single on Sept. 1 followed by another single release on Nov. 1. Ultimately, Armour plans on releasing a full album early next year. “Led by the Light” is one of these singles. With a voice that falls somewhere between Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles, Armour’s single comes from thoughtful songwriting and features sonic complexity combined with a beautiful, modern country attitude steeped in tradition and great harmonies.
