Want to try your hand at one of the most successful musical comedies in U.S. entertainment history? Then Joe Jefferson Players have just the thing for you.

JJP will hold auditions for their production of Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” on Monday, Aug. 29, and Tuesday, Aug. 30, at their playhouse (11 S. Carlen St.). Auditions begin at 6:30 p.m. both nights.

Auditions will consist of 40 seconds of any musical theater-style song. You must sing with an accompanist, who will be provided. Selections from the show are acceptable.

For acting, you might be asked to read scenes with a partner or ensemble. There will be a short dance audition, so bring appropriate clothing and footwear.

Callbacks are Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. if needed.

There are 20 male roles, five female roles, some spoken, some singing. Ensemble roles are also available. For the listing of vocal ranges, go to joejeffersonplayers.com.

Rehearsals begin Sept. 5. Tech week starts Oct. 30.

Performances run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 4-20.

South Baldwin troupe needs actors
Auditions for the stageplay “Laura” will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2-6 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 29, 6-9 p.m. The play opens Oct. 14.
The story revolves around ideal modern woman Laura Hunt. Ambitious, captivating and beautiful, she proves irresistible even in death. As a callused New York police detective tries to solve the mystery of her death, his obsession with the deceased heightens.

Director Sparkie Harrison needs five males and three females, preferably 17 years of age or younger, for this show by South Baldwin Community Theater.

Charity costume ball closes August
Hurricane season is in high gear, which means Halloween will be here before you know it. Get a head start on costume ideas at Pensacon’s “Dress Up or Dress Up Costume Ball” on Thursday, Aug. 25, 7-11 p.m. at Pensacola’s Little Theatre (400 Jefferson St.), where proceeds benefit Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of the Emerald Coast and Pensacola Little Theatre.

Either don a standby costume or opt for cocktail or formal wear so you can grab tips and hints from others associated with the central Gulf Coast’s largest comic/pop culture/cosplay annual event. Tickets are still available for the presale price of $20 each.
Attendees must be 18 or older. The evening includes live entertainment, hors d’oeuvres and dancing in the ballroom along with both silent and live art auctions. A cash bar is available.
