Austal charity golf tournament raises $142,122 for United Way

On Friday, March 13, Austal USA hosted its 4th annual Charity Golf Outing benefiting United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA). Despite the rain, 217 golfers representing 64 companies participated in the event and helped raise $142,122 for UWSWA.

“This is the fourth year for this tournament and each year Austal has exponentially increased the amount of money raised for United Way,” said Don Keeler, Austal USA’s Vice President of Human Resources and UWSWA’s 2015 Board of Trustees Chair. “The fact that we have been able to go from raising around $40,000 the first year to over $140,000 the fourth year speaks to the business community’s commitment to funding programs that make a measurable impact on southwest Alabama. This tournament would not be a success without the generosity of the various companies that participate in this event.”

Austal’s Charity Golf Outing is also the start of the 2015-2016 campaign for UWSWA. In 2013, UWSWA’s campaign raised over $5 million and the 2014 campaign results will be unveiled at UWSWA’s Annual Meeting this Thursday, March 19.

In a special presentation following the tournament, Douglas McDonald, Operations Director at Mobile’s General Dynamics Mission Systems, presented UWSWA with a check for $5,000 and Austal USA President Craig Perciavalle presented UWSWA a check for $10,000.

The event took place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama.
