The Austin music scene can be cutthroat on a variety of levels, and relocating to Austin does not automatically guarantee a band’s success. However, Los Coast has used its versatile sound to conquer the Austin music scene. This quartet has developed a cool, modern mix of retro-soul and added complexity with elements of psychedelic rock, indie pop and jazz. Los Coast’s sound exists in a mellow limbo of rock and soul somewhere between Al Green and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.
When the band arrives at The Merry Widow, Los Coast will be introducing the Azalea City crowd to its debut album “Samsara.” Three singles have given the public a varied preview of this new album. “Monsters” has rapid-fire grooves and psychedelic overtones, and is a beautiful experiment in modern soul madness. Old-school soul and modern indie pop mingle for the heartfelt track “The Morning Weight.” “Simplify” maintains a hard-edge groove that is a throwback to the glory days of The Isley Brothers.
