Barbecue and blues are a good pairing and a trend that is growing at many festivals and restaurants.

Murky Waters started in downtown Gulfport and expanded to Ocean Springs’ entertainment district. While the location may be different, its reputation for bringing the public some of the best in barbecue and blues remains unchanged.

Murky Waters is bringing Kern Pratt for an evening of bluesy trips across the fretboard. Pratt is a native of the Mississippi Delta and has been schooled in the blues styles populating the area. Over the years, he has performed alongside greats such as T-Model Ford, Percy Sledge and Hubert Sumlin.

Pratt’s latest album is “Broken Chains.” This album provides a musical cross-section of his blues style, which shifts from acoustic slide to electric glory. Vocalist Denise Owen sporadically guests on “Broken Chains” and adds a new dynamic to Pratt’s blues.
