It’s turning out to be one of Mobile’s favorite annual events, so get ready for the Bay Bites Food Truck Festival, slated for Wednesday, July 20, at Cooper Riverside Park. Back by popular demand, this is the way we celebrate all things food truck as attendees will be able to sample a variety of foods on the go as well as craft beer, live music and lawn games on Mobile’s beautiful riverfront.
Hosted by the Mobile Baykeeper’s Young Advisory Council, the event is a sure crowd pleaser that helps sustain our “meals on wheels” industry as well as bring awareness to the important mission of Mobile Baykeeper. This event lasts from 5-8 p.m.; tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Visit www.mobilebaykeeper.org for more information.
Participating food trucks so far are Frios Gourmet Pops, Grits and Grub, Smith’s Catering, Sno Biz on Wheelz and Von’s Bistro and Food Truck. There are more to come, so stay tuned to the website as others are added.
This year Bay Bites is also auctioning off a brand new kayak! This sit-on-top is a great angling kayak with lots of amenities to make any outdoorsman (or -woman) happy. Raffle tickets are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. The nonmember raffle ticket includes a Mobile Baykeeper membership, so it’s a win/win!
Don’t’ miss this event. We will update you as more details unfold.
Mediterranean Sandwich Company expanding
Yes, folks, global shawarming is real, according to Vlad and crew at the Mediterranean Sandwich Co. The sandwich shop is exploding with popularity and has been on the rise ever since it opened its first LoDa restaurant.
After that came the extremely West Mobile location at Schillinger and Cottage Hill (in the original Hungry Owl building) and then stretched across the bay to Daphne in the Jubilee Shopping Center. Now it has announced plans for the fourth location, in the Yester Oaks Shopping Center.
Set to open in September 2016 in the former Istanbul Grill on Airport Boulevard, this facility will be a prime spot for those who prefer to jump on over to the other side of Interstate 65. It’ll be here before you know it. Until then you’ll have to settle for shawarma, gyros, lamb sliders and baba ghanouj at the other three. Ask for a redneck gyro with bacon carbonara but don’t neglect the Italian Job.
