The Mobile BayBears will play at Hank Aaron Stadium through 2019, while a potential move to north Alabama continues to gain momentum.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, the BayBears announced the team would be in town for two more seasons.

“After consultation with Ralph Nelson, CEO of BallCorps LLC the new ownership group of the BayBears, it was determined that it is in the best interest of the organization and the Southern League for the team to remain in Mobile through the end of the (2019) season,” the statement reads. “Everyone affiliated with the BayBears organization looks forward to staging two more seasons of BayBears baseball in a fun, clean and family-friendly environment at Hank Aaron Stadium.”

BayBears General Manager Chris Morgan said it was good for the staff to have certainty about the next two seasons. As for what happens after 2019, Morgan said he couldn’t speak about it at this time.
In an email, Nelson had no comment about developments surrounding moving the team.

In a special meeting Monday night, the Madison City Council approved a plan with BallCorps for a $46 million stadium where those involved believe the BayBears will move, according to multiple media reports out of North Alabama. The stadium would have a capacity of 7,000.

The BayBears 2018 season starts on April 5 at home against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Morgan said the team will soon make an announcement about promotions.
