After fake lineups and leaked lineups made the rounds earlier this month, the list of performers scheduled to play “Alabama’s Largest Music Festival” was officially released today. BayFest 2014 will feature a cavalcade of excellent entertainment from across the musical spectrum. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, organizers carefully sifted through the past two decades of artists to bring back some of BayFest’s most memorable bands. In addition, they have also confirmed quite a few newcomers to perform on the streets of downtown Mobile. Oct. 3-5.

Rock fans can expect everything from alternative to metal. Self-proclaimed “American Badass” Kid Rock is bringing his versatile sound that pulls from styles ranging from hip-hop to country. Stone Temple Pilots will be making their third BayFest appearance. However, front man Scott Weiland has been replaced by Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington. Foster the People will be there to entertain the “kids with the pumped up kicks.”

The queen of garage rock Joan Jett and her Blackhearts will be making their second appearance at BayFest. Post-hardcore punk outfit AFI will be making their BayFest debut as well as metal masters All That Remains. Local favorite Pop Evil will also be returning to Azalea City to perform at BayFest.

For those looking for something a little more eclectic, BayFest 2014 will be more than happy to provide. After a successful performance at Hangout Fest this year, singer-songwriter Amos Lee will be returning to the Gulf Coast. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will deliver a brassy blast of New Orleans funk and jazz. Canada’s Magic! will travel to the Gulf Coast to deliver a batch of reggae-infused tunes.

The 2014 BayFest crowd will get a ton of rhythm and soul with the return of Earth, Wind and Fire. Closet freak CeeLo Green will definitely get things funky. Hip-hop icon Ludacris has once again been added to the BayFest lineup. Soulful diva K Michelle will woo the crowd with her sweet sounds and Bone, Thugs-N-Harmony is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser with their trademark hip-hop flow.

Country is always a big part of BayFest and this year will be no exception. In fact, the inclusion of country legends Alabama could be one of the biggest additions to the 2014 lineup. They will be joined by new-school country acts such as Brantley Gilbert, Frankie Ballard and Thompson Square. Country fans should be most excited to know that Blackberry Smoke will be performing at this year’s festival. Their southern rock take on country has put them in a category all their own.

Local talent is always a big part of the festival. Regional bands on this year’s line-up include Dennis Nelson, Kristy Lee, Shawna P, Gretsch Lyles & the Modern Eldorados, The Mulligan Brothers, WORX, Cathercist, The Ben Jernigan Band and 2 Major Twinz.

Weekend passes are $60 and on sale now on BayFest’s website and at Circle K locations across Mobile. A limited number of daily passes will be sold at the gate. Stay tuned to Lagniappe for more BayFest news.
