The City of Mobile will once again host the annual lighting of the tree holiday celebration in Bienville Square on Friday, Nov. 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join Mayor Sandy Stimpson, Santa Claus, and more as the downtown Mobile community officially kicks off the Christmas and holiday season.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” Stimpson said in a statement released Thursday morning. “Our annual tree lighting ceremony will kick off our holiday season complete with snow, elves and ice skating. This is an important time to come together and I encourage all of our citizens to take part in the merriment.”
Along with local artisans and specialty vendors, you will find entertainment provided by the Dunbar Dancers. seasonal music will be performed by Mare and Nomade, who can be seen again on Saturday at the Civic Center for the 33rd annual Mobile International Festival. For the young and the young at heart, there is snow, face painting and Uncle Joe’s Rolling Zoo.
The Salvation Army canteen will be onsite with free coffee and hot chocolate. Come “hear the bells ring,” as the Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama kicks off their 2016 Red Kettle Campaign for the City of Mobile. Join Area Command Major Mark Brown and Stimpson as they rally the support of the city in their efforts to continue “doing the most good,” and watch as Stimpson makes the first Red Kettle donation drop of 2016 on behalf of the entire city.
Come join WBLX’s Dirty Dan as he emcees the event. The switch for the lighting of the tree and the ceiling of lights down Dauphin Street will be thrown promptly at 6:10 p.m., so be sure to get there in plenty of time to enjoy all of the events of the evening.
