Big Beach Brewing is bringing a taste of the Big Easy to Gulf Shores. Boukou Groove’s classic style is sure to keep the crowd grooving through the evening. Almost 10 years ago, this band took shape on Tipitina’s iconic stage through a collaboration between keyboardist/vocalist Donnie Sundal and guitarist Derwin “Big D” Perkins. The combined efforts of these seasoned musicians provides an infectious mix of funk, soul and rhythm and blues that flows from the stage into the crowd. Boukou Groove’s brand of New Orleans funk makes this band a standout in the city’s rich music scene.
Boukou Groove celebrates a two-album catalog consisting of “A Lil’ Boukou in Your Cup” and “Let the Groove Ride.” Throughout these albums, the group delivers a smooth, classic funk style with a heavy leaning into soul and jazz. The band maintains its energy without the intensity of some New Orleans funk outfits. Big Beach patrons can expect to sample the band’s latest single, “Never Steal Our Thunder.”
