One of Downtown Mobile’s iconic venues is bringing the music of a rising star in the local country scene to its stage. Singer-songwriter Jenna McClelland will be entertaining the Veet’s crowd with an original collection of country folk.
Originally from Maryville, Tennessee, McClelland honed her music skills around her home state before relocating to Opelika. Now that she has established roots in the Azalea City, McClelland has been building a following along the Gulf Coast. Her music is a fresh and welcomed addition to the area’s increasingly diverse music scene.
While her music has always mixed elements of country and folk, McClelland has undergone an artistic evolution since the release of her debut EP, “Lion Heart.” This album showcases a sound that leans heavily into the folk styles of Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez with indie country overtones.
Since this initial release, McClelland has discovered the power of vocal soul, which can be witnessed through her latest EP, “Mess.” This five-track album features edgy indie country arrangements mixed with a Southern-fried vocal delivery with a hint of Grace Potter’s soul. With a ton of stage experience over her career, McClelland’s live show should be just as powerful as her studio performances.
