The Nevilles could be considered New Orleans’ first family of music. This band of brothers exploded out of the streets of the Big Easy with their soulful mix of funk and rhythm and blues grooves. Their widespread success attracted a worldwide audience and brought attention to the New Orleans music scene in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
Before the Neville Brothers began their musical conquest, Aaron Neville had won over listeners with his trademark soul croons on the emotional single “Tell It Like It Is.” He later teamed up with Linda Ronstadt for the album “Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind,” which included the platinum hit “Don’t Know Much.”
He returned to the solo world, marking the occasion with the single “Everybody Plays the Fool.” Since then, he has continued to tour and record.
Neville’s latest offering is “My True Story.” The singer gets back to his roots with a collection of tunes that inspired his own career. This album is filled with Neville’s take on classic doo-wop hits such as “Money Honey” (The Drifters), “Ruby Baby” (Dion) and “Be My Baby” (The Ronettes). Neville’s excellent vocal work shows his passion and love for these classic songs.
