Jamell “The Gulf Coast Blues Boy” Richardson is planning to give his Brickyard crowd a case of the blues. Like many others, this guitarist’s love affair with music began in his grandmother’s church. Gospel served as a plat- form for his musical expression. Richardson mingled his guitar with the sounds of notable gospel artists ranging from Rance Allen to Marvin Sapp. His exposure to artists such as B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix led him into the blues. Since then, he has appeared at Hangout Music Fest as well as performed alongside artists such as Bobby Womack, Denise LaSalle and Al Green.
2017’s “Blues How I Wanna Blues” is Richardson’s latest album. From gospel to blues, this album reflects the numerous musical influences that has surrounded his life. His soulful delivery of blues and soul grooves are taken to a higher level through his impeccable work on the fretboard. While this studio album is great, experiencing these tracks in a live set- ting can be a charismatic experience.
