Breast cancer is a deadly disease that plagues women worldwide. However, organizations such as the American Cancer Society were created to both promote breast cancer awareness and generate funds dedicated to curing this sometimes fatal condition. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is one of the biggest of the American Cancer Society’s annual events.
The Rack Pack is a collection of family and friends who are representing the area for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In true Mobile fashion, they have organized an epic party featuring an impressive line-up of local entertainment.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Boobstock 2014 will take over the Odd Fellows Festival Park in Grand Bay. In addition to kid-friendly entertainment, shopping and food, Boobstock 2014 will feature 11 regional musical acts lending their time and talent to raise funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Singer-songwriters such as Eric Erdman, Christina Christian, Megan McMillan, Laci Wright and Bobby Cool will regale the crowd with their homemade sounds. Fresh from performing with Willie Sugarcapps at the Americana Music Festival, Sugarcane Jane will bring fresh tunes with old school attitude to the Boobstock stage.
Chico & Chris, Vertigo Haze, The Easy Tongues, Revere and Bates & the Yellowhammers are all sure to be crowd pleasers with versatile and extensive repertoires.
Admission is only $5. Gates will open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Those wanting to attend should bring a blanket or chair. VIP tables and seats are available. For more information, please visit The Rack Pack’s official website (www.therackpack.net).
Saenger gearing up for holidays
Christmas may be months away, but the Jewel of Joachim is already planning a down-home Holiday party for local country fans. On Thurs., Dec. 18, the Saenger Theatre will play host to Trace Adkins’ “The Christmas Show.” Adkins is a country superstar with numerous hits such as “Ladies Love Country Boys” and “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” For this special event, Adkins will be creating a “reverent, family friendly production” that will feature tracks off of his 2013 Celtic Christmas album “The King’s Gift.” The country icon will delve into classic carols combined with “fireside storytelling” in the form of historical and humorous narration. “The Christmas Show” will also accent the event with an impressive amount of supporting instrumentation. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Saenger Box Office and through Ticketmaster.
