The University of South Alabama’s Independent Music Collective (IMC) is bringing another season to a close. Each year, this group provides USA students and the public with a series of performances from premiere singer-songwriters. The IMC showcases these great artists within the intimate Satori Coffee House, which has become one of Mobile’s most iconic music institutions. For this year’s grand finale, the IMC is bringing prolific singer-songwriter Richard Buckner.
At the height of the grunge era, Buckner slipped into the national scene with his acoustic blend of folk and classic country. His 1994 debut, “Bloomed,” combined a minimalist take on instrumentation with Buckner’s lyrical dynamics. More than two decades later, Buckner is still pulling listeners and positive reviews through albums such as “Our Blood” and “Surrounded.”
Over the past two years, Buckner has been reissuing past albums featuring remastered and bonus tracks. “The Hill” is his latest reissue and features several memorable songs based on the poetry of Edgar Lee Masters’ classic “Spoon River Anthology.” Recently, Buckner has been on his “Chair of the Night” tour, which features Buckner performing in living rooms across America. The homey environment of Satori should make for the ultimate living room performance.
