United Way Kick-off Campaign
Join the United Way at Via Health, 1717 Dauphin St., for the 2014 Campaign Kick-off, Campaign Goal Announcement and Volunteer Awards as well as guest speakers. Doors open at 9 a.m. Events begins at 9:30 a.m.

Grand Opening

Greater Mobile Arts Awards
Each year a different local artist is commissioned to create the awards. This year the awards have been created by painter and printmaker Kate Seawell, a previous Arts Awards recipient. The awards will be presented Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. in the 1927 Room at the Saenger Theater, with a reception honoring the recipients immediately following. Free and open to the public.

Thursdays at the Museum
Every Thursday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. the Mobile Museum of Art, 4850 Museum Drive, offers free admission to all visitors. Join MMOA each week to experience the museum in new and exciting ways throughout the year. No reservations necessary.

Steel Magnolias

SeaGrass Concert
Dauphin Island’s SeaGrass Concert Series continues with another stellar show at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Site, 531 LeMoyne Drive, Dauphin Island. Locals Lisa Mills and Ryan Balthrop will open up the show, Amanda Shires will follow and the headlining acts are Jason Isbell and Marc Broussard. Word Play
For children ages 1-5 and their families, building vocabulary skills through art and reading. Participants will choose from a selection of books that focus on specific vocabulary words related to CLA’s current exhibition, PRE-GLO; after reading their books, children will work on an art activity. Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to work at tax help sites in the Mobile area during the 2015 tax season. Those who volunteer will be trained with Internal Revenue Service tax materials to help elderly and low-to-middle-income people with their federal and state individual income tax returns.
