Fifth annual Bulls on the Beach
The Flora-Bama is hosting a weekend full of events beginning Thursday, with a $100 per plate dinner with the bull riders, with proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. On Friday, Sammy Kershaw will perform in the bullring area at 8 p.m., with tickets ranging from $15 to $40. Saturday’s schedule includes a mechanical bull riding bikini contest at 3 p.m., with the bull riding competition set for 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $225. Observe National Sickle Cell Awareness Month this September by donating blood with the American Red Cross. Sickle cell disease is an inherited disease affecting as many as 100,000 Americans that causes red blood cells to form an abnormal crescent shape. Blues & Grooves Music Festival
A heart-warming event where several blues bands donate their talent to help raise awareness about Down Syndrome with the goal of demonstrating that people with Down Syndrome are more alike than different. Mobile Par-3 Golf and Putting Tournament
The event is set for the Robert Trent Jones’ Magnolia Grove Short Course, 2005 Magnolia Grove Parkway, Mobile, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The format is two-person, best-ball, amateurs only. Voices of Jerusalem
Voices of Jerusalem depicts the rich story of Jerusalem through artifacts, photographs and a lecture series, complimenting the National Geographic film “Jerusalem.” The film gives the vision of three young Jerusalemites and their families – Jewish, Christian and Muslim. Through their eyes, audiences will learn what it means to call Jerusalem home and experience celebrations and events that mark the high points of a year in the life of the city. Tax Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to work at tax help sites in the Mobile area during the 2015 tax season. Those who volunteer will be trained with Internal Revenue Service tax materials to help elderly and low-to-middle-income people with their federal and state individual income tax returns.
