In 1985, 92 ZEW decided to contribute to an arts event called “September Celebration” by creating a lunchtime concert series for all the hard-working people in and around LoDa. Locals could take a break from the office and enjoy lunch as a local artist entertained them under the oaks of Bienville Square.

Catt’s Brown Bag Concert Series has fulfilled its mission and then some. The concert series grew to make its way to the Eastern Shore at Daphne’s May Day Park and Fairhope’s Windmill Market.

This year marks the festival’s 30th anniversary and Catt’s Brown Bag Concert Series is celebrating with another year of free entertainment. Each week in September and October will feature three performances from a local artist at three locations in the Mobile Bay area. Last week Eric Erdman kicked off the anniversary of the concert series.

Singer-songwriter Gregg Fells performs this week with a repertoire of original music. Modern artists have taken the folk drama in a variety of directions, and Fells’ sound is folk with a hardcore soul edge. The sheer emotion this artist exhibits through his music captivates his audience and creates permanent fans. Check out the rest of the lineup on
