Authorities say a Mobile man died as a result of wounds he received during a domestic altercation Friday, and the case is now heading to a Mobile County grand jury to see if criminal charges are warranted.
According to the Mobile Police Department, 52-year-old David Devaney was “cut” on the afternoon of Sept. 11, but was transported to a local hospital by a personal vehicle as police were in route to the scene of the altercation on Cedar Wood Drive.
The driver of the vehicle, whom police did not identify, flagged down first responders in the area of Rangeline Road at Hamilton Boulevard. There the victim was transferred to an ambulance and brought to the hospital. However, the victim did not survive.
Through an investigation, officers were able to confirm Devaney was in a physical altercation with a family member at the time he was cut. The facts of the case were presented to the District Attorney Ashley Rich’s office and will go before a grand jury to determine if a crime was committed.
Devaney appears to have a criminal history in Mobile County that includes multiple violations of a protection order and previous domestic violence charges, but MPD officials have yet to release any details about the nature of the altercation on Friday.
However, MPD homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the case, and anyone with information is asked to call the MPD at 251-208-721. Tips can also be reported through CrimeStoppers at 251-208-7000.
