Pending Council approval, the City of Mobile will design a new destination playground at Medal of Honor Park. After a collaborative process with the City Council, Mayor Sandy Stimpson has submitted a $24,000 contract for its consideration and approval.
“It has aged over time and needs to be renewed and improved, so it can continue to nurture and entertain a new generation of children.”
“Our parks should draw us together in a tangible and meaningful way,” Stimpson said. “This new signature playground will be a first-class facility for families to enjoy. I am committed to improving all of our parks to connect communities throughout the City of Mobile.”
The proposal awards the contract to Watkins Acy Strunk Design, Inc. and upon City Council passage, a notice to proceed will be given to the designer to begin work.
The theme of the design is transportation highlighting the history of the Port of Mobile. The existing playground is more than two decades old and is in extremely poor condition.
“The Playground Express with its canopy of trees is one of the most popular and beloved attractions in the City Of Mobile,” Councilwoman Bess Rich said[caption id=”attachment_25417″
