One of contemporary folk’s most iconic names will be returning to Mobile. For over three decades, the Indigo Girls have been building their dedicated fan base with each new generation. In a time when the Georgia music scene was experimenting with alt. rock, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers concentrated on a warm, innovative acoustic folk rock sound that has been inspirational for many artists who followed. With each passing album, this duo released unforgettable tunes such as “Closer to Fine,” “Shame on You” and “Galileo.”
Indigo Girls’ performance at the Saenger should not be missed by longtime fans. The crowd will be getting a preview of the duo’s upcoming 15th release, “Look Long.” John Reynolds (Sinéad O’Connor, Damien Rice) acted as producer of this album. “Look Long” also has a local connection in the form of Trina Shoemaker (Dauphin Street Sound), who mixed the album’s tracks.
Grayson Capps will be opening the show. This local singer-songwriter has attracted a worldwide audience with a raw delivery of musical prose set to raucous Americana rock. Capps will fill his set with cuts from his eight-album catalog, including his latest release, “Scarlett Roses.” Capps’ inclusion in the lineup should make for a memorable evening within the Jewel on Joachim.
