A few corrections were warranted from a Nov. 13 article entitled “Mayor’s accident scattered, covered, smothered in controversy.” It was reported that Bayou la Batre Mayor Brett Dungan was “legally handicapped” while discussing an accident that took place in a handicapped parking area of the Waffle House. That is incorrect. Dungan’s wife Linda is actually handicapped — permitting the mayor’s use of the parking space.
The following quote was also incorrectly attributed to Dungan: “Because he’s a new city clerk, he didn’t realize the issues with that. It was a minor error in his judgement.”
In actuality, those statements were made by Dungan’s assistant Wanda Overstreet, who was on the phone during a conference call when Dungan was interviewed.
