Corrections officer resigns amid drug charges

A Mobile County corrections officer has resigned his position after being arrested for multiple drug charges Tuesday morning.

David John Black, 22, was booked into the Mobile Metro Jail this morning, where he has worked since June 2014. Black, who was arrested by officers of the Mobile Police Department, was charged with four counts of distributing marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Lori Myles, a spokesperson with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department, said Black came into the program as a cadet and had no prior law enforcement experience. According to the jail records, he has no previous arrest history.

Myles said Black was arrested around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning and resigned from his position at the jail.
