Carpool traffic at Hutchens Elementary is much better these days, thanks in part to district funds from the Mobile County Commission.
Additional lanes were added about three weeks ago to help relieve the traffic congestion parents faced when transporting children to and from school, and continued improvements to the school expected to wrap up in about two weeks. The project described cost an estimated $210,000, with most of the funding coming from Commissioner Jerry Carl’s allocation of $140,000 from District 3 funds.
“Something had to be done,” Carl said. “It was a headache for parents trying to get through all that traffic. The new lane provides a safer and convenient way to get on and off campus.”
