It’s my favorite event of the year and it’s this Saturday! St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus Crawfish & Bluegrass Extravaganza is coming to the St. Mary School grounds this Saturday, April 16, 4-9 p.m., and promises to be a great one.
The forecast for this year is perfect, as Azalea Seafood and Gumbo will be heating up the roux and cranking out the bugs by the ton for another year of fun and frivolity. Expect chips and hot dogs for those not in favor of crustaceans.
Bands this year include our Godfather of Bluegrass, Eldon Bryson, and his band Azalea Bluegrass followed by Fat Man Squeeze. The Cottage Hillbillies are newcomers with old familiar faces and the evening will close out with the Steel City Jug Slammers.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door; teens with a high school ID pay only $15 (funny, they tend to eat the most) and children 12 and under get in free. Grab yours at the St. Mary School office, Zoghby’s Uniforms or Mobile Popcorn.
Updated “LuLu’s Kitchen” on shelves soon
We all know the name Lucy Buffett and her LuLu’s restaurants in Gulf Shores and Destin. She’s as busy as a bee and has set an April 26 release for her latest book, “LuLu’s Kitchen: A Taste of the Gulf Coast Good Life” published by Grand Central Life and Style.
This latest book is a revised version of her “Crazy Sista Cooking” and has been updated with a new introduction and headnotes, but still has all the great recipes of the first edition. It’s a perfect gift idea for the cook of any level.
You don’t have to wait for the release date. Pre-order the book at www.lucybuffett.com/buy-the-book. If you can’t wait, then head down to Gulf Shores. She’s always got something cooking over there.
Food and Wine Experience looks promising
What happens when you get a bunch of food and wine nerds together? They put together the Mobile Food and Wine Experience! This is the inaugural event that hopes to be celebrated for many years to come.
The details are far too numerous to list here but a week of wine and food begins with an April 20 preview party at Dauphin’s. April 21 there will be three different Vintner Dinners at Noja, Saisho and Dumbwaiter. April 22 there will be a wine tasting at Domke Market and a Sommelier Soiree at Noble South.
Saturday, April 23, the Grand Tasting event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum. This event features wines from top distributors across the Gulf Coast as well as food from Mobile’s best restaurants and caterers. Tickets include museum exhibits.
The fun doesn’t end there. April 24 is the Classical Spanish wine brunch at the Battle House. For more details and prices on all of these amazing events visit www.mobilefoodandwine.com.
