While Mobile may serve as the epicenter of misrule for Fat Tuesday, the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area knows how to do the Boom-Boom properly. For 15 years, LuLu’s Homeport Marina has hosted a Mardi Gras celebration that includes both excellent sounds and a boat parade.
They also have another reason to celebrate at LuLu’s on Fat Tuesday. The day also marks this tropical locale’s anniversary. Each year, they tend to bring the sounds of the Big Easy to the beach.
This year, Glen David Andrews will be providing the soundtrack to this celebration. This trombonist did not earn the title “Treme Prince” without validation. His brassy jazz was a part of daily life in NOLA.
Even in the womb, Anthony “Tuba Fats” Lacen had the tendency to blow his horn in the direction of his mother’s stomach. His latest single, “NY to NOLA,” (produced by Galactic’s Ben Ellman and Robert Mercurio) proves that time has only strengthened his beautiful sounds.
