It’s nearing time for the 19th annual Dauphin Street Beer Festival, and I have been to almost every one (save the couple of years I lived in California). This event was first held the year after I moved to Mobile and boy, has it grown.

Saturday, Aug. 27, is the date of this epic pub crawl of sorts with over 30 venues pouring more than 90 different craft beers. Live music is always a big part of this festival as beer and bands go hand in hand. Expect to hear some good acts along the way.

Of course the beer is going to be amazing, but you have to pace yourself. The most important part of this event is the food. Any pro knows you can’t sample 90 craft beers on an empty stomach. Stick to the salty snacks and small amounts of bread. Avoid the spiciest wings on the strip until after you are good and drunk.

You still have a couple of weeks to plan, but don’t take this lightly. There’s tuna at Royal Scam. The burger at Haberdasher could be a good pre-party. Pretzels at LoDa Bier Garten could help soak up the suds. Working toward the other end of the street, Heroes’ peel-and-eats are as good as their amazing wings. Wintzell’s has premium raw oysters now for a little extra. And of course you have to end with Mexican and sushi at the OK Bicycle Shop for that late-night fare so you don’t crawl into a Big Buford on your way home.

Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased at most downtown bars, restaurants and venues. For a complete list visit Dauphin Street Beer Festival on Facebook. By all means have a designated driver or use ridesharing.

Mobile one of two cities for KFC’s Georgia Gold
Did you know 8.27 percent of all Alabama restaurants are barbecue joints? Guess who does know that. OK, it’s the Colonel. That’s why KFC is giving Mobile the chance to be one of two cities blessed with the introduction of its new Georgia Gold barbecue chicken.

I remember when the choice was simply extra crispy or original recipe. Now we have the option of a tangy honey mustard base with sweet BBQ flavor that is more of a Georgia/South Carolina nod. The commercials are all over the Olympic coverage.

Currently the promotion is only set to run through Sept. 4. Get yours now.

Krystal Boneless wings: have you been waiting for them?
Just in time for all the sports action, Krystal is also offering new chicken options. Boneless wings are the latest trend, and the flavors are your choice of Southern-style barbecue or classic spicy Buffalo. Running through Oct. 16, you could make it through the first part of football season with your taste buds doing the dance.

A six-piece meal with small fries and beverage is only $3.99, but a party in need can certainly be accommodated for larger orders. Don’t forget the complimentary ranch.
