On Wednesday, Mobile Police confirmed a man wanted for physically abusing a 15-year-old minor in Mobile had been apprehended in Indiana and is currently awaiting extradition.

Authorities confirmed Wednesday that 26-year-old Demetrius Longshaw had been arrested on Sept. 8 in Portage, Ind., but will be transferred back to Mobile county to face charges that stem from rape and domestic violence to probation violation.

Police alleged Longshaw severely beat a 15 -year-old female juvenile during an incident on Aug. 28. The juvenile’s name has not been released in the media, but she told other media outlets she was beaten for hours and at one point had been struck with a broomstick.

Longshaw was arrested and initially charged with third-degree domestic violence but made the bail the same day. Shortly thereafter, he fled the area and was being sought by local authorities until they were informed of his capture in Indiana.

It appears those charges have since been upgraded to include rape and second-degree domestic violence, but authorities haven’t released any details at this time.

A Lagniappe records review showed that Longshaw has at least nine previous domestic violence charges on his criminal record, among dozens of other charges that stretch all the way back to 2007.
