The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is investigating the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Summerdale, and on Monday, they arrested 50-year-old Fabian Atanacio Sanchez in relation to the crime. According to online jail records, Sanchez is currently held in the Baldwin County Jail on a $25,000 bond after being booked on Wednesday morning.
According to BCSO, at 9:30 p.m. on Monday deputies responded to a report that a 13-year-old that had been raped by a Hispanic male. The victim told her mother the offense had just occurred and reported the Hispanic male walked inside of a nearby residence.
The victim described the suspect to the deputies and showed them the location he retreated to. Deputies found Sanchez at a nearby residence and took him into custody. Deputies also located evidence which matched the victim’s description.
The victim told deputies she was sexually assaulted inside of a shed near her residence. The BCSO Crime Scene Unit responded to the location and processed the scene. The victim was transported to USA Women’s & Children’s hospital, where a follow-up interview was conducted by investigators.
Sanchez was interviewed at the Robertsdale Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of a Spanish language interpreter sent from the Foley Police Department. Sanchez admitted to speaking with the victim and being with her during the time frame of the offense, but denied sexual involvement with the victim.
Sanchez was arrested for first-degree rape and transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center.
