Even though the Blues Tavern isn’t the biggest venue in Mobile, the room tends to attract some of the biggest names in blues. On Saturday the the legendary Smokin’ Joe Kubek and his brother-in-arms, Bnois King, will take the Blues Tavern stage.
Kubek grew up in East Texas where he reaped all the blues goodness the area had to offer. In the process, he incorporated the Texas blues into his guitar work and began performing with legend Freddie King. Kubek eventually crossed paths with Louisiana-based guitarist Bnois King, giving audiences a twice the usual lead-guitar action.
Kubek and King are touring in support of their latest album “Fat Man’s Shine Parlor.” The duo filled this album with a tidal wave of guitar licks for mass consumption. Newcomers to this venue should expect to join Tavern regulars on the dance floor alongside (sometimes literally) Kubek and King.
