A tip on the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office’s crime tips page led to the arrest of 33-year-old Christina Busby, a Faith Academy teacher who is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old who attended the private Christian school.MCSO spokesperson Lori Myles said the relationship was uncovered by the parent of the student, who found “numerous inappropriate text messages back and forth between the two.” Myles said the parent took the evidence of the relationship to the school first, but the MCSO is currently in possession of those messages.
Myles couldn’t say whether Busby admitted to the relationship but did say she was arrested on Tuesday after a second interview with deputies. She’s being charged with two counts of sexual contact with a student under the age of 19.
Though the school is located in Mobile, Myles said at least two known instances of sexual contact between Busby and the student occurred in Wilmer, which is in the jurisdiction of the MCSO. At the time of known incidents, which Myles said occurred in March, the student was still 17 years old.
Busby has been employed with Faith Academy for 12 years, but it’s unclear if she is still employed there currently. When Lagniappe reached out to the school on Tuesday, no comment on the arrest was given.
