New leadership for the fairgrounds at Cody and Zeigler roads – now officially tagged simply as The Grounds – is bringing area cultural events normally associated with downtown to the west Mobile venue. A new partnership with Arts Alive was announced in April and now the South Alabama Film Festival is following suit.

When the Greater Gulf State Fair runs Oct. 24 – Nov. 2, it will feature a new attraction in the ballroom where various works from the film fest will screen. Attendees will be able to catch the movies at no additional cost.

Films on display consist of the best works from festival history and select coast-inspired programming paired with the 2014 fair theme “Celebrate the Coast.” Most films range from 10 to 12 minutes and will run on a recurring loop.

The South Alabama Film Festival is slated to run Sept. 12-14 at venues throughout downtown Mobile.

“This is excellent exposure for the filmmakers and their craft. We are really excited about the opportunity to support the arts in this capacity and hope to continue to build these types of relationships with the arts community along the Gulf Coast,” The Grounds Executive Director Scott Tindle said in a press release.

“Filmmaking in the Mobile area is a growing local art and through this partnership and exposure we will be able to continue showcasing the filmmakers’ work and attract new fans and potential filmmakers to the project,” South Alabama Film Festival Director Hailee Kuntz added.
