Guido Orefice is a Jewish Italian book shop owner whose creativity and sense of humor serves to win him love. Those same gifts are later utilized to shield his son from the horrors of life in a Nazi concentration camp.

Roberto Benigni not only directed this foreign masterpiece but also won an Academy award for his starring performance. His jubilant acceptance of the Oscar became a classic moment noted for his unbridled enthusiasm fitting the film’s title.
