Every great music scene needs the jump-off venue. The stages in these typically intimate venues play host to little-known hometown and touring bands looking to introduce their music to local audiences. Over the years, The Blind Mule has filled that niche. It’s dark, second-floor stage has featured a surplus of local up-and-comers and touring hopefuls. Mule Fest celebrates the positive sonic contributions this venue has made to Mobile. March 14 marked the beginning of Mule Fest 2016, which features 14 nights of musical entertainment from numerous bands.

Halfway through this celebration, Mule Fest will be giving the local masses a good excuse to get out on a Monday night. Nappie Award winners The Handsome Scoundrels will provide a furious set of local punk. With catchy lyrics and intense instrumentation, this trio’s live shows are filled with underground electricity.

Luckily I’m the Hunter will be traveling from Pensacola for Mule Fest. This duo’s eclectic instrumental music should be a fresh addition to the lineup.

Sharkmuffin completes the triple shot of alternative sounds. This New York band conjures the spirit of the ‘90s Riot Grrrl sound. Sharkmuffin’s fuzzy brand of garage punk is both unruly and infectious, expertly captured on the band’s latest full-length recording, “Chartreuse.”
