There’s a new taco game on its way to town. Fuzzy’s Taco Shop will be coming soon to 5763 Old Shell Road, just west of University. The franchise location will be serving handmade Baja-style Mexican food with indoor and patio seating, specializing in fish tacos, burritos, nachos, queso, margaritas and ice-cold beer.

I could go for a little of all of that right now. No hard opening date has been given yet, but we will let you know when they settle on something. Check out Fuzzy’s on social media or visit www.fuzzystacoshop.com.

Fuji San now offering beignets
Fuji San has become a go-to spot for me. Mobile loves its sushi and I am partial to some hot Tom Ka when I get the sniffles. But its latest offering has the community buzzed — sugar buzzed, that is. And it’s all because Fuji San’s sushi chef spent a lot of her formative years in Paris.

The Loop’s famous sushi restaurant is now serving beignets daily beginning at 7 a.m. Enjoy a mountain of delicious fried dough and enough powdered sugar to recreate a scene from “Scarface” and wash it down with a café au lait or cappuccino.

If you aren’t the type to hit the bricks for breakfast, worry not. Fuji San will be serving beignets all day long as dessert.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit expanding
Just in time for Mother’s Day, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will be opening another Gulf Coast location, this time in WeMo. The popular barbecue joint will have its first day of business — just east of Schillinger Road. at 7721 Airport Blvd. in Westwood Plaza — this Thursday, May 5. A ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m. and doors open to the public at 11 a.m.

Friday, May 6, the store will be part of the Barbecue, Boots and Badges fundraiser. In-store donations will benefit the Mobile County Law Enforcement Association and injured officers. Donations will be accepted at other Gulf Coast locations as well, including Daphne, Gulfport and D’Iberville in Mississippi and the McGowin Park store in Mobile.

La Cocina opening second Mobile location
Maybe this is the answer to my Sunday Mexican dilemma. Before Christmas La Cocina announced it would be opening a second location in Mobile, at 830 W. I-65 Service Rd S. They seem to still be working on the building and have not set an opening date of any sort. If they could just get this one up and running it would officially be the closest Mexican restaurant to my house. We’re waiting.

Hi, Mom.
Happy Mother’s Day to Khaki, and all the other mothers in my life. This includes Andree, Andrea (about to be a mom of three!), Missy and Carol. May you all have a wonderful day. And for all of you with moms within reach, take them out for something good to eat.
