The Atlanta jam scene will be making its presence known in Downtown Mobile. Groove Moose formed in the rural surroundings of Milledgeville, Ga. This funk-rock trio took on a name inspired by their black Labrador mascot, Moose, and begin to devise a progressive jam sound built on a foundation of tasty grooves. After discovering their sound, the members of Groove Moose introduced themselves to the public at a St. Patrick’s Day blowout at a hometown venue. Since then, they have been taking their intricate, new-school funk to the public.
Groove Moose’s funk is a bright, plucky sound with a Southern flair that could only come from Georgia. Those unfamiliar with this band might find them to be a mix between Widespread Panic and Phish. The trio just released their latest single, “If You Want To.” Leaning more into the rock side of the band’s sound, this eclectic track takes on a hypnotic persona with a mellow arrangement complemented by matching vocals.
