For years, people have made an annual viewing of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” into a beloved holiday tradition. A trio of musicians known at the Joe Cool Trio have taken this Christmas tradition to another level. For over a decade, keyboardist Chris Spies, drummer John Milham and bassist Chris Severin have met on the Saenger stage to provide their interpretation of Vince Guaraldi’s jazzy soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” With each passing year, this has not only become a holiday tradition for the Joe Cool Trio but also for many of the denizens of the Azalea City. As always, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Delta Dogs, a nonprofit that provides veterinary care for the pets of people in need.
For many, this musical performance has taken on the air of a beautifully wrapped gift filled with many surprises, including a number of special guests to the Saenger stage. This year will be no different.
The Joe Cool Trio will be infusing a little Big Easy brass into the evening’s holiday sounds. The New Orleans All-Star Horn Section will bring Grammy-winner Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown’s trumpet to the mix. Brown will be accompanied by Clarence Johnson III’s smooth work on the saxophone. Charlie Brown Jazz Christmas will also feature Mississippi singer-songwriter Brooks Hubbard III. Anyone who has caught this talented guitarist in his element knows that they are in for a treat.
