Mobile woman drowns attempting to save grandson

Posted by Jason Johnson | Apr 10, 2015 | Latest, News | 0 |

Police are reporting that a grandmother has died attempting to rescue her five-year-old grandson, who fell into the family’s pool Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a 5 year-old boy fell into the swimming pool at the residence in the 2500 block of Woodland Road just before 2 p.m. yesterday.

The child’s grandmother, 56-year-old Dong Bi Ru, immediately jumped in the pool and attempted to save him. Bi Ru was pulled from the pool and transported to a local hospital, but later died as a result of drowning.

Her grandson was also pulled from the pool and transported to University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
